Story Behind the Curve
Data point represents the overdose rate - the number of overdose deaths per 100,000 residents. Data is pulled from the Tennessee Department of Health Drug Overdose Dashboard provided by the TN Department of Health to help users better understand the drug overdose crisis in Tennessee. Beginning in 2018, the state saw a sharp increase in overdose deaths related to fentanyl and stimulants, which represents a shift from numbers more concentrated in prescription pain relievers.
