Story Behind the Curve
Overview: Both mental and physical health are equally important components of overall health and well-being. Mental illness, such as depression, increases the risk for various types of physical health problems like diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Inversely, the presence of chronic conditions can increase your risk of mental illness.
Vulnerable Populations: In Utah, during 2020, the percentage of adults reporting poor mental health was higher for adults with lower income levels. When conducting an analysis by race, the American Indian/Native Alaskan population reported the highest percentage of seven or more days when their mental health was not good in the past 30 days, while the Utah Pacific Islander adults reported the lowest percentage.
