Story Behind the Curve
In response to the growing need for behavioral health services, the Hoke County Health Department successfully increased the number of individuals trained in the ASIST program from 12 in 2022 to 67 in 2023. The impact of COVID-19 heightened awareness of mental health challenges and emphasized the importance of addressing suicide prevention through evidence-based training. By prioritizing community engagement and promoting ASIST, more individuals gained the skills to recognize and respond to suicide risks effectively. This growth highlights the department’s commitment to fostering a safer, more supportive environment for behavioral health Hoke County.
