Story Behind the Curve
In January 2023, Emergency Services was removed from the Adult bundle, and the monthly target was changed from 370-300. Our numbers naturally decreased as the Emergency Services caseload was removed from this set of numbers.

What Works
In the spring/summer of 2023, the Adult Outpatient team at NCSS implemented changes to our screening and intake process. Initial assessment appointments were returned to in-person appointments due to community feedback. This change also allowed us to streamline our intake paperwork process to ensure we have the proper documents signed at the beginning of treatment. We also instituted new documentation review processes to ensure timely completion of biopsychosocials, treatment plans and discharge. Staff now receive reminders on all of these documents. Our Access Coordinator has also made a strong effort to find a way to say "yes" to clients who call to be screened for services. We are aware of a high need for mental health services in our area, and we're working hard to meet the need. All of these changes are expected to improve our ability to attain our monthly caseload targets.
Action Plan
NCSS will continue to focus on staff retention as a key part of our ability to serve the community. The Adult Outpatient and CRT teams are currently supporting 3 Master's level interns. We are looking for innovative ways to train and support the workforce.
How We Impact
Even with the removal of Emergency services from our Adult bundle, we have recovered and are meeting our monthly targets. By maintaining our ability to serve this high number of clients, NCSS will directly impact our community's mental health needs.
