Story Behind the Curve
The Great Recess Framework (GRF) is a tool designed to assess the quality of a school's recess, and to help gauge whether students are engaging in safe and healthy play. The GRF is divided into three sections: Safety, Engagement and Empowerment.

Data Methodology
Schools are graded on a scale of 1-4 in several areas of safety. These areas include:
Little no play hazards, appropriate play space, equipment used as intended, clearly marked play space boundaries, positive and encouraging communication, little to no physical altercations, small adult to student ratio, adequate adult supervision, adequate adult positioning.
Score listed is an average of the participating schools' great recess framework overall safety score. Schools included are:
22-23 - Jefferson East Elementary, Watertown Douglas Elementary, Lake Mills Elementary, Jefferson Middle School.
23-24 - Jefferson East Elementary, Watertown Douglas Elementary
