Story Behind the Curve
When children become teenagers they are faced with many pressures and challenges within the teenage stage of life. It is important that they understand how they can navigate those issues when they arrive. Within Lee County a nonprofit by the name of The Partner for Children and Families have a program called Teen Outreach Program (TOP) that assist teens with this stage of life. The program helps promote positive teen development, and provide skills that teens can use to become the best versions of themselves as teenagers and into adulthood.

What Works
Wyman’s Teen Outreach Program (TOP) promotes the positive development of adolescents through curriculum-guided, interactive group discussions; positive adult guidance and support; and community service learning. The TOP Curriculum is focused on key topics related to adolescent health and development, including building social, emotional, and life skills; developing a positive sense of self; and connecting with others. Wyman’s Teen Outreach Program® (TOP®) empowers teens with the tools and opportunities needed to avoid risky behaviors – like dropout and teen pregnancy – and become leaders with a powerful vision for their future.
- TOP (Teen Outreach Program®) groups are implemented with 7th-12th graders.
- Teens become involved in meaningful community service learning and are encouraged to complete at least 20 hours each.
- End of year celebrations, field trips, and more fun!
