Story Behind the Curve
The measure was important because it showed the number of renewals initiated in a given month to demonstrate overall progress in meeting the 12 month renewal initiating unwind timeline.
This measure captured the status of Medicaid renewal processing which is a fundamental body of work in health care eligibility operations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, states were required to keep members enrolled in Medicaid. This continuous coverage requirement led to unprecedented growth in Medicaid enrollment. DVHA has completed their “unwinding” from the Medicaid continuous coverage. This means that the eligibility units have initiated their processing of renewals for the entire Medicaid population between April 2023 and March 2024.
Renewals for all Medicaid enrollees were initiated within 12 months of the beginning of the unwind period (April 2023). DVHA reached the total Medicaid caseload except for those transitioning programs or on State ONLY programs.
