Story Behind the Curve
In 2023 (2022-2023 School Year), some FCPH jurisdiction school districts were participating in OHYES!, but none of these districts had a data use agreement with Franklin County Public Health. Participating FCPH jurisdiction school districts included Bexley City School District and Upper Arlington City School District.
In 2024, the FCSPC hired a Youth Suicide Prevention Manager to assist in building a youth coalition in FC. As part of this work, the Manager will also lead efforts to engage FC school districts in participating in the OHYES! survey and signing a DUA with FCPH.

What Works
The Ohio Healthy Youth Environment Survey (OHYES!) is a survey asked to middle and high school students to estimate mental illness, ACEs, substance use, and more. The Franklin County Suicide Prevention Coalition identified youth mental health data as a major gap in their 2023 report. Establishing data use agreements with FCPH service area school districts participating in OHYES! would help to fill that gap in data and allow for actionable intervention.
Strategy
Increase the number of school districts participating in and sharing data from the OHYES! Youth Survey.
Action Plan
FCPH epidemiologists will coordinate with local school districts to coordinate data collections and data sharing with the State.
