Story Behind the Curve
The Columbus & Franklin County Addiction Plan (CFCAP) is a community action plan aimed at addressing the complex challenges of substance use in central Ohio. Its mission is to reduce the rates of overdoses, overdose-related deaths, and the spread of infectious diseases such as Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS.
At the heart of this plan lies a critical metric: the number of naloxone kits distributed within the community. Naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses, has become an essential tool in our battle against the opioid crisis. CFCAP partners play a pivotal role in ensuring that these kits reach those who need them the most—individuals at risk, their families, and frontline responders.
But the numbers tell only part of the story. The distribution of naloxone kits is not just about quantity; it’s about strategic outreach, education, and engagement with the community. It involves building trust and overcoming barriers, such as stigma and lack of awareness, that prevent people from accessing these life-saving resources. CFCAP partners work tirelessly to bridge these gaps, distributing kits in high-risk areas, training individuals on how to use them, and fostering a community-wide understanding of the importance of naloxone.
