Measure Definition
This measure represents the percentage of children who are victims of abuse or neglect who are able to safely remain at home with supports and services as needed. This includes all children who come to DCFS attention, including a CPS investigation. DCFS strives to serve children in their home whenever safely possible.
Story Behind the Curve
DCFS works to support family independence as much as possible during a family's involvement with the agency, while also addressing safety concerns and working to reduce repeat involvement. DCFS has performed strongly on this measure, with the second quarter of fiscal year 2026 at 92.2%, showing continued improvement from 89.4% at the end of fiscal year 2024. The agency will keep working to serve children in their homes whenever it is safe to do so by connecting families to community resources, addressing safety and risk concerns through thorough and collaborative safety planning, and providing ongoing case management services as needed.
