Story Behind the Curve
This project was originally brought up during the SUD Coalition in July of 2024. Detect & Reflect hosted its first event on August 20th at Alexander Central High School's Open House. Detect & Reflect is a simulated student room aimed at parents/guardians and teachers/administrators. The focus of the simulated room is to educate adult individuals about what children may be trying to hide in their rooms and where they might hide these items. Individuals tour the room and try to spot Risky Items. They are then given a packet with an explanation for all items hiding in the room with health risks and tips for starting a conversation with youth about drugs and alcohol. Ultimately, the simulated room aims to increase communication between adults and youth, and decrease rates of substance use and vaping in Alexander County. The first Detect & Reflect event was hosted at Alexander Central High School's Open House where 42 people completed the simulation.

What Works
Interest in Detect & Reflect is low as this is a new service. Increasing awareness for the simulation and offering free items via raffle for utilization has increased appeal.
Utilizing modern marketing tactics such as social media presence.
