North Carolina (TOTAL) HIV Rate - Number of new HIV diagnoses in NC per 100,000 population: 2023 rate = 15.5 (down from 2016 rate of 16.3)

NC (Female) HIV Diagnosis Rate in 2022 = 5.2 (down from 2016 rate of 5.8)

NC (Male) HIV Diagnosis Rate in 2022 = 25.8 (down slightly from 2016 rate of 27.0)

*2020 data should be treated with caution due to reduced availability of testing caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Why is this indicator important?

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a deadly disease if left untreated. Diagnosis is important to ensure that infected individuals receive appropriate treatment and to lower the risk of spreading the infection to others.
