Why Is This Important?
Robust partnerships allow us to more effectively serve our populations in need and provide opportunities for enhancing the quality of life in our community. Portland's Children Levy grants fund early childhood, child abuse prevention/intervention, afterschool, mentoring, and hunger relief programming, as well as supportive services for children and youth in foster care. Program activities include parent education, childcare, family mental health support, tutoring and afterschool enrichment, college/career preparation, school and community based food pantries, and gardening/nutrition education. Arts and Culture grants provide essential resources to local arts organizations and artists. Funding supports a wide range of activities and creative outputs — from theater and art classes to dance performances and free community events and concerts.
What Do The Numbers Show?
These numbers show over 500 total grants given to community organizations and artists across the city. Of the total, the Office of Arts and Culture (Arts) had 427 grants to individual artists and to arts organizations, and Portland Children's Levy (PCL) had 85 grants to community based organizations.
This is a combined metric for the new City structure when Arts and PCL moved to the Community & Economic Development Service Area at the beginning of FY 2025-26, so not historical data is available.
How Did We Arrive at These Numbers?
This number is a count of each unique grant made by Portland Children's Levy to community organizations and by Office of Arts & Culture to community organizations and artists.
