Story Behind the Curve
For FY22, No youth were placed in the Youth Employment Initiative program in FY22. The Garrett County Local Management Board made the decision not to fund the program in FY23.
For HFY1 22, The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging for the YEI program. Outreach will continue to area business and the two local high schools in hopes of recruiting two disconnected youth for the program.
For FY21, Funding for the Youth Employment Initiative program was reduced from $5000 to $4250 because of budget cuts made by the Board of Public Works. As a direct result, the number of youth served by the Youth Employment Initiative program was reduced from 3 to 2. Mid-year data for the program is compared to fiscal year data from the year before and is trending downward, but on target for FY21.
For FY20, The program was re-named Youth Employment Initiative to reflect the fact that LMB funding could be used year-round to sponsor a youth work experience. Funding for the Youth Employment Initiative program was reduced for FY20 by the LMB in the amount of $1,000 taking the total amount of program funding from $6,000 to $5,000. Due to COVID-19 regulations and the close of businesses in the area, the Youth Employment Initiative program was only able to serve 3 youth with LMB funding.
