What Works

  • Providing 1:1 social, emotional, and behavioral support for students who struggle with self-regulation, student who have difficulty engaging in the safety expectations, and are in need of a more intensive level of support.
  • Working in close collaboration with families, school staff and other outside providers to develop a comprehensive and individualized behavior plan that employs specified interventions that are rooted in the theories of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to align with the student’s needs and provide strengths based approaches.
  • CAT staff are highly trained in the areas of Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) and the Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC), Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and the Youth Mental Health First Aid framework to enhance our ability to provide trauma informed care to the students and families we support.
  • CAT staff also participated in the Annual Success Beyond Six Behavior Interventionist Conference in Burlington, VT, which includes various topics within the realm of children’s mental health. One of the CAT employees was recognized for the Ed Sbardellati award.
  • Currently there is one CAT staff, a Senior Behavior Interventionist, that is taking classes in graduate level ABA coursework.

Action Plan

  • Continuing to provide high quality supports in the local school communities.
  • Continue to boost overall knowledge and expertise in the area of ABA.
  • Continue to provide schools with education in ABA to help support and improve their support of students using data driven programming and evidence based practices.
  • Continue to support schools in understanding how to support students transitioning off of CAT services to ensure both clients and schools are successful when CAT services are no longer in place.
  • Continue to advocate for staff to access higher education in graduate programs in ABA coursework or Children’s Mental Health.
