The National Diabetes Prevention Program was established at the Bear River Health Department in 2016. This one year, evidence based program was created in 2010 to address the increasing burden of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in the United States. The program focuses on lifestyle change, specifically healthy eating and physical activity. The goal is to lose 5-7% of your body weight and get 150 minutes of physical activity each week. By making these changes it is proven to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% (71% for people over 60 years old).
