Story Behind the Curve
FY21: The CCFN Coordinator worked closely with Southern Maryland Community Network (SMCN) to build program capacity and to promote the program in the community. CCFN in partnership with SMCN develop an outreach and promotion plan for the program and monitored outcomes weekly. Even still, the Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Thereapy (TF-CBT) component of the program did not serve any youth in the first half of FY21. On January 25, 2021,(SMCN) submitted a 30 day notice to terminate the TF-CBT portion of the program. SMCN cited the increased need for crisis related services for youth and families amid the COVID19 Pandemic. SMCN reports families are not seeking trauma focused treatment at this time.
FY20: The program therapist earned the Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) certification in March 2020. In the spring, the Therapist and SMCN Exectuive Director developed internal processes for progam intake and created outreach materials. Throughout the Summer, SMCN along with CCFN began promoting the program and the TF-CBT Model to partners, including the Calvert County Detention Center, Calvert County Public Schools, the Local Care Team, the Interagency Council, the Muti-Disciplinary Team and the Family Violence Council. The program began accepting referrals August 30, 2020.

What Works
TF-CBT is an evidence based practice that addresses the specific emotional and mental health needs of children, adolescents, adult survivors, and families who are struggling to overcome the effects of trauma. The modality is especially sensitive to the unique problems of youth with post-traumatic stress and mood disorders resulting from abuse, violence, or grief. TF-CBT often brings non-offending parents or other caregivers into treatment and incorporates principles of family therapy.
