Story Behind the Curve

The US EPA has provided the State of CT with the authority to administer a licensing and certification program for lead-related professions. The CT DPH issues licenses to lead abatement and lead consultant contractors to ensure that a qualified workforce is available to consumers. The number of contractors and consultants fluctuates annually based on market conditions and consumer demands.

These data are current as of  February 2020.

US EPA-funding support;

Environmental Practitioner Licensing Unit and Practitioner Licensing and Investigations Section - issuing initial licenses and certificates and renewals;

CT DPH Legal Office-advising and processing complaint investigations;

Local health jurisdictions, and HUD grantees-notifying the CT DPH of active lead abatement sites.

What Works

Ensuring there is an adequate number of training providers in the State of CT who offer approved training programs in each of the licensure/certification disciplines, making individuals aware of the licensing and certification requirements found under statute and regulation.

Action Plan

Taking legal action against unlicensed practitioners (for unlicensed practice), and non-compliant currently licensed practitioners.
