Story Behind the Curve

Smoking and tobacco use costs Connecticut over two billion dollars a year in health care expenditures alone.

Each year in Connecticut, 800 youth become new daily smokers.  Although vaping and the use of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) is fairly new, preliminary studies show many of the same negative effects as those caused by smoking

CT raised the age for the sales of tobacco products to 21 years old effective 10/1/2019.  During the spring of 2019, more than 1 in 4 high school youth reported vaping or tobacco use during the past month.

In 2015, the CT School Health Survey ended data collection in middle school students for tobacco use.  These data are current as of June 2016 and no new data is expected.
