Why Is This Important?
The purpose of investing in high-quality early care and education is to close achievement gaps that exist between low-income children and their more affluent peers. The measure utilized to indicate whether the achievement gap is reduced is often whether children entering kindergarten are kindergarten ready.
Explanation for the Indicator
This indicator is being measured utilizing a new tool developed by the Utah State Board of Education. The tool, "Kindergarten Entry & Exit Profile," has been implemented beginning in the 2017-2018 school year. Prior to that, Utah did not have a statewide kindergarten assessment tool.
