Why Is This Important?
The availability of evidence based home visitation services leads to improvements in child well-being among young families with newborns. Through home visitation services, one of these outcomes is to reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect, which is significantly higher among children experiencing intergenerational poverty. In Utah, DOH is responsible for funding an evidence-based home visitation program throughout the state called Parents as Teachers (PAT).
Home visitation access is currently available in 11 counties in Utah to approximately 600 families. Although access to home visiting programs was reduced in FFY18, Utah continues to provide services to families in the following counties: Weber, Salt Lake, Juab, Sanpete, Millard, Sevier, Wayne, Piute, Iron, Washington, and San Juan.
