What is this about?
A work/life balance is about Islanders' ability to balance personal lives with the demands of the workplace. It is important for the wellbeing of the person and that of their whole family. This indicator uses data from the Jersey Opinions and Lifestyle Survey, which asks a representative sample of adults about their work/life balance. Respondents are asked: 'Do you think that you spend too much, too little or just about the right amount of time in your job/paid work?' They can answer, too much time; just about the right amount of time; or too little time. This indicator measures the proportion of working adults who say too much time.
Between 2013 and 2019, the proportion of working Islanders who felt they spent too much time working rose significantly from 37% to 49%. In 2022 50% of working adults said they spend too little time with their families or other social contacts (61%).
