What is this about?
Kerbside recycling is a collection of basic everyday household recyclables such as paper, cardboard, metal packaging and plastic bottles. This data tells us how easy it is for everyone to recycle from their doorstep. Kerbside recycling is important as it makes recycling easy for everyone. In areas that don’t receive this service, recycling may be difficult, especially for people who do not have private transport. Waste collection is administerd by the parishes so this indicator uses parish populations from the 2011 census to give an approximation of the proportion of Islanders who have access to kerbside recycling.
This data tells us the percentage of island homes that receive a recycling collection but it doesn’t tell us how many people are using the service. It is important that these services are used to maximise recycling, achieve value for money and enable recycling initiatives that focus of different materials.
Slight decrease (1%) on previous year likely to more accurate recording of population distribution.
Parishes which currently provide kerbside recycling include St John, Trinity, St Mary, St. Lawrence, St Helier, St Brelade, St Saviour (as of 1 October 2019), St Peter (as of 9 December 2019).
