What is this about?
The number of people reported by the Police for drink-driving can often reflect levels of police enforcement activity as much as driver behaviour. Measuring the number of road traffic collisions where drink-driving was a factor helps overcome this issue and gives an indication of the scale of the problem.
The number of road traffic collisions where drink-driving was a factor decreased by nearly 50% between 2010 and 2015 but then remained at around 33 a year before increasing to 38 in 2019 and dropping slightly to 37 in 2020 and dropping again slightly to 36 in 2021.
