Foodborne disease poses a serious threat to public health. In the UK, there are an estimated 500,000 cases of foodborne diseases linked to known pathogens annually and more than half of all outbreaks are associated with catering establishments. This indicator tracks the number of confirmed cases of foodborne diseases in Jersey identified through laboratory confirmation of samples provided by patients. These clinical reports, however, will only represent a fraction of the number of cases which have occurred in the community.
