Story Behind the Curve
At this time, most of our funded programs have not tracked this data point. However, we anticipate that this will be tracked by a number of programs in the future. Among those who are now tracking this data are United Way and its collaboratively-run* Story County Workforce Innovation Project (funded by Iowa Workforce's Coronavirus Workforce Innovation Grant in fall 2020). The SCWIP project brought three high-demand trainings to Story County: MIG Welding, Manufacturing Production Technician, and Certified Nursing Assistant.
*SCWIP is a collaborative initiative of United Way of Story County with DMACC, Ames Chamber, Center for Creative Justice, and Story County College Access Network. Other supportive entities include Iowa Workforce Development, Ames Public Library, Nevada CSD, YSS Youth Employment, and local businesses. (The Welding pilot was started in early 2020, with 11 students successfully completing required soft-skills and resume building workshops. The welding class itself was then postponed from spring 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic and brought to fruition fall 2020 as part of SCWIP.)
