The Master Plan for Aging notes that a “byproduct of more Californians living longer is the need for more health care informed by geriatric expertise.” The MPA supports expansion of geriatric emergency departments statewide as a means to achieving this goal.

This indicator measures the number of accredited geriatric emergency departments in California. Increasing this number will expand older adults’ access to emergency care that is informed by geriatric expertise.
