Measure Definition
Measure under development.
This measure shows the percentage breakdown of total funding for the Division of Population Health. State funds include money allocated to DPH activities from the Utah Legislative Budget (includes General and Restricted Funds), federal funds include money awarded to Utah from federal grants or cooperative agreements with federal agencies, and private funds which include dedicated credits, expendable receipts, rebates and transfers).
We only have access to the Utah budget, so national comparison data is not available.
Story Behind the Curve
The merge of the Department of Health and Department of Human Services restructured some of the divisions so funding from the Utah Public Health Lab and the Office of the Medical Examiner is no longer accounted for in the DPH budget, but EMS and Preparedness funds are now included. Preparedness has over $10 million dollars of federal funding that would be considered contributing to public health services. Additionally, there was an influx of federal funding to support public health activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We continue to receive and expend additional Epi Lab Capacity funding surrounding COVID-19, and those grants would also be considered contributing to the Public Health Services.
