Story Behind the Curve

Story Behind the Curve: Med Instead of Meds

  • NC Cooperative Extension of Franklin County and the Franklin County Health Department partnered in May 2022 to offer a nutrition program to the residents of Franklin County. This program began on May 3rd, 2022, and ran over a 6-week period.
  • This program is a yearly offering, so we are looking to start the program again in Spring 2023.
  • Satisfaction surveys were given at the end of the 6-week course to measure both satisfaction and knowledge after the program. The survey asked participants to rate their knowledge on Mediterranean-style eating patterns before and after the program.
  • By the end of the 6-week course, 88% of participants showed an increased knowledge of the Med Way of eating.
  • This percentage shows that there is room for improvement – we would hope that all participants would have an increase in knowledge after 6 weeks of education. However, since we did have a low number of participants (11), the percentage could be skewed if only 1 or 2 people reported that their knowledge did not change.

2023 Update

  • In 2023, since individual sessions were offered instead of the whole 6-week course, program satisfaction surveys were not administered so we do not have data for 2023.
