Story Behind the Curve: Transforming Prenatal Education to Reduce Health Disparities
- The Franklin County Health Department’s Maternal Health Clinic began the implementation of the new maternal health curriculum on June 13th, 2022.
- From June to October 2022, 52 patients received the new prenatal education that consisted of nurse and provider counseling, videos shown in the clinic during their appointments, paper handouts, and the use of mobile phone apps.
- These 52 patients were at different points in their pregnancy, but they were provided with the appropriate education for where they were in their pregnancy.
- Since this was a pilot program to determine the effectiveness of the prenatal education, program data is no longer being tracked so we will not have participant data going forward. However, all of the FCHD’s maternal health clinic patients are still being offered the curriculum.
