The Community Care Clinic of Highlands-Cashiers provides services 100% free to those who qualify.

Contributions are voluntary, and not required.

To receive free medical care at the Community Care Clinic, a patient must be:

• Uninsured, meaning the patient cannot have health insurance or be the beneficiary of other programs that pay for health care, and
• The family income must also be at or under 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

They provide interpreters on site. The clinic refers patients to both the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital and Angel Medical Center, as well as other non-profits that provide services to the same demographic. These include but are not limited to dental clinics, food pantries, and other resources available to those in need, such as the SNAP program and referrals to county health and social services departments.

The number of Outpatient appointments available is highly dependent on volunteers. Volunteers donate their time, expertise, knowledge and resources. 

• Primary Care Physicians and Mid-Level Providers 
Position Requirements: Physicians must have a license to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina in a Primary Care specialty. Mid-Level Providers (PAs, NPs, etc.) must have active experience in primary medicine and have a supervising physician.

• Nursing/Clinical Volunteers
Position Requirements: RNs, LPNs, MAs, or nursing students must have clinical experience. Active licensure as an RN or LPN is not required.

• Medical Records Clerks
Position Requirements: Familiarity with medical terminology is required.

• Spanish Translators
Position Requirements: Approximately 30% of the clinic’s patients speak Spanish as their primary language.  Volunteers assist patients fill out clinic forms and translate for the patients, when needed, during treatment. No formal training is required.

• Clerical and Administrative Volunteers
Position Requirements: Assist with front desk admissions, reception, filing, phone calls, etc. No formal training is required.
