Story Behind the Measure

The Community Care Clinic of Franklin is a Free Clinic located in Franklin, North Carolina. They have been serving the citizens Ages 16 & Up who reside in Macon County as well as the citizens of surrounding counties who are not able to afford healthcare elsewhere since 2010.  Many of our patients are seen for supervision of chronic diseases such as diabetes. Through the clinic, patients can obtain care through medical supervision, lab testing/results, testing supplies, and medications including insulin. If not for our clinic, many of these community members would have no source of care and would be at risk for complications of their disease including hospitalization and possible death. The free clinic serving low income and uninsured residents of Macon County is funded entirely by grants and donations. 

The Community Care  Clinic of Franklin is housed in the Macon County Public Health Center at no cost and utilizes MCPH clinic facilities after normal Health Department hours of opperation and a collaborative arrangements. MCPH also provides laboratory services to CCC patients at no cost in a collaborative patnership with LabCorp. CCC of Franklin opperates clinics 2 to 3 days a week depending on volunteer availablity.

Clinic Hours:

Monday & Wednesday: 5PM-7PM

Tuesday Mornings: 8:40AM-12:40PM

Friday Mornings: 10AM-2PM

In order to qualify for our clinic, you must:

  1. Be Uninsured, meaning that you do not have any health insurance or be the beneficiary of other programs.
  2. You must have a Total Household Income that is below or at the 200% level of the Federal Poverty Guidline

They offer Telehealth Services, as well as Parking Lot visits for patients who are experiencing Flu/COVID-like Symptoms

 Patients who have not been seen In-Person by the Clinic in the last 3 months will NOT be able to schedule a Telehealth Appointment and must be seen In-person. 

They have Spanish Interpreters on staff who can help with Translation needs. 

They are able to treat most Chronic Diseases such as DiabetesHypertension, etc. As well as many Acute Illnesses such as Sinus Infections, UTI's, etc.

They offer Medication Assistant for patients who qualify! However, we do not offer any financial assistance for procedure such as Imaging, visits to a Specialist, ER Visits, etc. 

  • If a patient gets lab work done at the Macon County Health Department, it is free of charge to the patient. 

What Works to Do Better (Performance)?

The number of Outpatient appointments available is highly dependent on volunteers. Volunteers donate their time, expertise, knowledge and resources. 

• Primary Care Physicians and Mid-Level Providers 
Position Requirements: Physicians must have a license to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina in a Primary Care specialty. Mid-Level Providers (PAs, NPs, etc.) must have active experience in primary medicine and have a supervising physician.

• Nursing/Clinical Volunteers
Position Requirements: RNs, LPNs, MAs, or nursing students must have clinical experience. Active licensure as an RN or LPN is not required.

• Medical Records Clerks
Position Requirements: Familiarity with medical terminology is required.

• Spanish Translators
Position Requirements: Approximately 30% of the clinic’s patients speak Spanish as their primary language.  Volunteers assist patients fill out clinic forms and translate for the patients, when needed, during treatment. No formal training is required.

• Clerical and Administrative Volunteers
Position Requirements: Assist with front desk admissions, reception, filing, phone calls, etc. No formal training is required.
