Story Behind the Curve
Binge drinking is defined as consuming 5 or more drinks for men and 4 or more drinks for women on one occasion. In Montgomery County, one in six adults report binge drinking but it is most prevalent among adults between the ages of 25-44. This excessive consumption of alcohol is a risk factor for several adverse health outcomes, such as alcohol poisoning, sexually transmitted disease, domestic violence, and motor vehicle accidents. It is also associated with a higher risk of alcohol use disorder.
