Story Behind the Curve
Overdoses are most commonly caused by opioid misuse. Overdose deaths can be reduced in multiple ways, including primary prevention of substance misuse, treatment for substance use disorder, and harm reduction efforts including naloxone. Montgomery County has decreased the overall rate of overdose since 2017, but a disparity still remains. Black men now have the highest rate of overdose death in Montgomery County and efforts continue to prevent substance misuse and overdose.
