Story Behind the Curve
Smoking during pregnancy can pose severe health risks to developing babies. Babies can be born too early or too small or have a higher risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). While there has been an overall decrease in the percentage of birthing people who smoke during pregnancy, more Whites (5.4%) report smoking than Blacks (2.7%).
One program aiding in this decline for our community is Baby & Me - Tobacco Free, a smoking cessation program for pregnant and postpartum women.
