Story Behind the Curve

This measure is important because it shows the Data Unit’s contribution to timely reporting to the Reporting Authority, defined as required reporting for CMS (federal) or other required State reporting.  The Data Unit does not submit data directly to the Reporting Authority.  Rather, they submit the data to their Agency Partners, who then add narrative to the report and submit to the Reporting Authority by the federal or state due date.  Data in the measure above represents the timeliness with which the Data Unit submits the data reports to our Agency partners.

The Data Unit is the support entity within the department responsible for the development of information resources required for effective policy making, planning, regulation, and evaluation for the state’s Medicaid program.  It is important to know the timeliness of the Data Unit’s submission of data to the Reporting Authority to support ongoing policy development and implementation of Medicaid programs.

The Data Unit started a new tracking system mid-2023, and we are adjusting to the new tracking process.  All reports have been completed but there have been some reporting and timing delays that are being addressed in our future reporting.
Due to staff absences during fall and winter 2024/2025, the data unit’s timeliness lapsed during January, although all work was completed.  The unit was at 60% of capacity then, and will likely remain so until new hires, training, and leave schedules bring the unit up to full capacity.
