Story Behind the Curve
This measure is important because it shows the Data Unit’s contribution to timely reporting to the Reporting Authority, defined as required reporting for CMS (federal) or other required State reporting. The Data Unit does not submit data directly to the Reporting Authority. Rather, they submit the data to their Agency Partners, who then add narrative to the report and submit to the Reporting Authority by the federal or state due date. Data in the measure above represents the timeliness with which the Data Unit submits the data reports to our Agency partners.
The Data Unit is the support entity within the department responsible for the development of information resources required for effective policy making, planning, regulation, and evaluation for the state’s Medicaid program. It is important to know the timeliness of the Data Unit’s submission of data to the Reporting Authority to support ongoing policy development and implementation of Medicaid programs.
Since initial use of a tracking system in 2023, these reports’ completion dates have been recorded and compared to due dates. Some timing delays resulted from a staff resignation and a long-term vacancy in early 2025.
The unit now has stable roster of analysts at 80% FTE, and has been able to deliver results 100% on-time for use by authorities for a majority of months since April of 2025.
