Story Behind the Curve
Narcan administration training as shown in the graph, is defined as a two hour hands on session in which participants learn how to recognize and respond to an opiate overdose.
In 2023, only one 2 hour training session was offered. 8 Johnston County residents participated in the Narcan administration training. This training was a collaboration with the Selma Police Dept and the Johnston County Public Health Dept. A pre and post survey was administered and all participants reported an increase in knowledge around overdoses and Narcan administration following the training. This training is a two hour hands-on training, that includes recognizing and responding to an opiate overdose, as well as administering Narcan.
In 2024, the Health Dept committed to offering 3 additional Narcan administration training sessions throughout Johnston County.
Past Narcan trainings were supported through Opioid Action Plan Initiative grant funding from 2018-2019.
