Description:  Negative trend overall.  The overall infant mortality rate in Arkansas increase from 7.1 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2012, to 8.6 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2021.

Negative trend for non-Hispanic White and non-Hispanic Black.  Variable trend for Hispanic. Infant mortality rate among Blacks is the highest followed by Whites and Hispanics. In 2021, the infant mortality rate among Blacks was 15.0 per 1,000 live births compared to 7.4 per 1,000 for Whites and 5.2 per 1,000 for Hispanics.

Notes: The infant mortality rate is usually defined as the number of babies who die out of every 1,000 babies who are born alive. High infant mortality also means that there are public health problems in the community that need to be addressed.
