Story Behind the Curve
In recent years, community members have had greater access to Narcan through free Narcan distribution at Johnston County Health Department funded by the Johnston County Opioid Task Force. In addition, there has been an increase in availability at pharmacies across North Carolina allowing pharmacists to dispense naloxone under a standing order (SB 154 effective 2015). Community members are also more knowledgeable about how to use Narcan and the Good Samaritan Law (SB20 effective 2013).

What Works
In the event of an opioid overdose, it is important community members are able to access and administer this live-saving medication during those critical moments while waiting for EMS to arrive.
