Story Behind the Curve
Data Definition and Methodology: This measure shows the number of unduplicated providers actively billing the public behavioral health system (PBHS) for substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services rendered to children and youth ages 0 – 17 years old.
Data for this measure comes from the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Behavioral Health Administration.
Public Health Significance: One of Maryland's strategies to improve behavioral health supports for Marylanders is to identify gaps in the behavioral health continuum of care and develop targeted solutions to improve access to care, especially for populations such as children and youth. The MDH Behavioral Health Administration has actively been exploring partnerships with substance use disorder (SUD) providers with the expertise in providing SUD services to adolescents, as well as with Maryland's Department of Human Services, Department of Juvenile Services, and State Department of Education for program implementation and data sharing.
