Story Behind the Curve

The PORT of Alexander County responds to or follows up with every overdose in the county within 0-72 hours. The Community Paramedic will make contact with the individual and their primary care physician to create a care-plan based on the patients needs. The Community Paramedic will also assist the individual who has undergone an overdose by connecting them to rehabilitation and mental health services. This program began in October of 2023 based on the SUD Coalition of ACHD, and is supported under EMS by Opioid Settlement Funding. Since the Community Paramedic was hired in October 2023, 2023 numbers only host October, November, and December. This represents the total number of OD per month
