Story Behind the Curve

We achieved a new milestone by becoming a Center of Excellence in 2019!  An important element in being “excellent” is ensuring our workforce is committed to the mission of the Agency.

We continue to utilize a version of the Gallup Q12 survey, as well as uniform questions designated by our Center of Excellence and State partners.

In FY2019 we returned to a 5 point rating scale for our annual employee engagement survey.  This aligned with the DA system for comparative benchmarking.*

According to our survey staff satisfaction (aka engagement) averaged 82.5%. This continues to be significantly higher than the 34% national rate the research reveals, yet slightly below our previous year’s rate

Of 409 respondents, 61% strongly agree they feel personally driven to see the organization succeed. As people are the foundation of our Agency, we will continue to cultivate this strength to achieve an extraordinary culture.

    What Works

    Having a respectful work environment that truly cares about employee safety; is welcoming and open to innovative ideas that allow employees an opportunity to develop their skills and ability; and staff can trust their leadership has integrity.

    Appreciation of employee contributions includes staff morale boosters, access to a robust wellness program that includes free activities and events; bonuses and gift cards whenever possible; and financial assistance to continually learn and grow professionally.

    Action Plan

    Spend time with the 4 stages of engagement - primary needs, individual contribution, do I belong, and growth/innovation and analyzing the results to make future adjustments.

    Continue to implement a total rewards structure to reinforce the value of working at NCSS and strive to maintain an attractive compensation program, where staff earns a competitive wage and access to a variety of engagement opportunities.

    Expand our employee health & wellness programs using data to provide programming that targets employee needs and desires.
