Story Behind the Curve
2019: Story Behind the Curve. To encourage children and families to register for Summer Reading, starting in 2019 libraries also began counting the May kick-off programs into their Summer Reading Program numbers. In 2019, prior to the start of Summer Reading, the area libraries did a kick-off event with the Starlab. Borrowed from the state Library, the Starlab was a portable planetarium that was taken to to libraries, schools, and community sites across Moore County and tied in with the Summer Reading theme, “A Universe of Stories.” A total of 1,389 children and adults attended 74 Starlab programs.
The data for 2017 is artificially high due to elevated attendance at programs for the eclipse, a unique happening.
