Story Behind the Curve
July 2024 - There was no LCT meeting in July.
January 2020 - Mother recently gave birth.
March 2021 - Mother was unable to attend due to dialysis and grandmother had connectivity issues. Both gave permission to discuss the youth at the LCT meeting in their absence.
Parents play an integral part in the lives of their disabled children. Transitional success is less likely without their participation. Helping parents develop the skills necessary to effectively communicate with community service agencies and schools may enhance the parents' abilities to advocate for their children and increase their participation in transitional programming. As Brotherson, Berdine & Sartini (1993) pointed out, professionals need to communicate with parents in a manner that respects their style of communication and respects them as individuals.
