Story Behind the Curve
Truant youth is a referral type that is included in the overall number served. In Fiscal Year 2023 BARJ served 846 youth statewide, that includes:
- 118 Pre-Charge referrals
- 77 Pre-Adjudication referrals
- 133 Truancy referrals
- 283 At-risk referrals
- 158 Adjudicated youth referrals, and
- 40 Youthful Offender referrals
The reason for BARJ involvement is to address concerns of truancy, lack of attendance at school. If the youth have an increase in attendance, they are addressing the reasons for the referral and their ongoing concerns of truancy are hopefully diminished.
