Story Behind the Curve

From FFY 2012 to 2014, the federal standard for face-to-face contact between social workers and children and youth in custody was that 90% of children would be seen each and every month of the year. The federal standard increased to 95% starting in FFY 2015.

In FFY 2015 and 2016, FSD was not able to meet this new standard due to rising numbers of children coming into DCF custody coupled with high non-custody caseloads.

FSD continues to work towards meeting this important standard as we fully understand the connection between frequent, quality contacts and positive outcomes for children in custody.

Why Is This Important?

Research shows that regular social worker contact with children and families leads to more positive outcomes for children in state custody.
