Story Behind the Curve
Each year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) grades the Vermont State Survey Agency, housed in the Division of Licensing and Protection's Survey and Certification Unit. This grade is a composite of administrative measures (did S&C perform its functions within federal timelines?), qualitative measures (does Survey and Certification's work meet federal guidelines?), and survey measures (CMS surveyors will survey a facility immediately following a Survey and Certification survey to determine if our findings were accurate). CMS changes the number of measured areas year by year. The percentage above is the percentage of measures that Survey and Certification met for that Federal Fiscal Year.

What Works

Action Plan
Survey and Certification will continue to maintain awareness of CMS requirements and to train staff on these requirements to continue meeting all performance expectations.
