This indicator is a measure of the percent of students who exited high school at any time during the six-year period prior to receiving a regular diploma for graduating classes of 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. This is not the event dropout rate which reports the number of dropouts in a particular grade range divided by the adjustment enrollment for that grade range in a singe school year. Event rates are almost always lower than the cohort rate.
Why Is This Important?
It is important to measure high school drop-out rates as individuals who drop out are more likely to have more limited social and economic opportunities within their communities.
