Story Behind the Curve
Ridership, until 2013, had shown a steady increase year to year, demonstrating the transportation needs of various segments of our population that have no other transport option. Special Services Transportation Agency (SSTA) has been providing transport to human service agencies since 1982. These are trips given to people who do not have the means to transport themselves, primarily our youth, disabled, and elderly. Since 2013 ridership levels have fluctuated year to year, yet SSTA feels that demand for elderly and disabled transportation has not slowed or decreased, but limited funding is dictating limits to service.
The number of rides reflected in this indicator indclude the United of Northwest Vermont Neighborides Program.
Why Is This Important?
The more trips we can provide to those in need and who are unable to use other modes, the better we serve the transport needs of more of our citizens and allow these people to more fully engage in all aspects of society.
