Story Behind the Curve
Talbot County Public Schools has experienced a sharp increase in the number of students dropping out of High School in 2016. TCPS is actively working to identify the root cause and working to implement a plan to address causes as they are identified.
The total number of students that "dropped out" in 2016 includes 9 students that received special education certificates, 6 students that are working towards their graduation and 36 students that dropped out. Of the 36 students that dropped out - 6 students that left to work full time (usually within their family's business), 10 students that moved out of the county but never enrolled in another school system, 6 students who are working on their GED, 12 students that had received multiple interventions (truancy court, night school, etc.), and 2 students continuing their education into a 5th year.
Of the 10 students that moved out of county, 7 students where unaccompanied minors and likely returned to their country of origin.
Only percentages higher than 3.0 are reported. If the percentage is less than 3.0, this indicator will be blank.
